Overall Satisfaction with Db2
As a database, for enterprise wide applications across the globe which requires robustness, scalable and secure databases while allows multiple-faceted user community.
Large / medium organisations with humongous data sets to be managed is recommended a serious consideration of Db2. The peripheral enablers for handling large volume of data makes it better than times before. ( am avoiding specific product callouts, as it will depends on each one’s need / requirement along with willingness to spend) .
Have noticed a lot more of acceptance in BFSI , logistics and manufacturing conglomerates.
Decision is very similar to that of owning or leasing a private jet. Merely acquiring one won’t help your case but using the same optimally with a qualified crew makes the difference. Maintenance too will cost you in its own ways.
Have seen Oracle , old Sybase , Max DB, Mongo , and HANA DB in action. Other than HANA DB for SAP, will consider Db2 any day. MHave had opportunities to closely work with IBM labs to get support and enhancements. Experience was superlative. FYI-not been in Sync with labs since 2022.
During these cloud y days, an operationally sharp acumen can take the calls as is the confidence alluded on security.

- Hosting ERP applications of SAP across 3 continents and round the clock
- Banking solutions with few hundreds of millions as customers
- Secure DB operations where security outweighs spender
Cons
- HA DR activities to be simplified
- Normal DB maintenance requires qualified professionals
- License costs
- For large and / or complex projects or programs if the client wants superlative performance with security this is a serious contender ( have d number vary depending on client negotiation skills on license and their maintenance budget)
- Moving to cloud has it’s own challenge - OS DB admin comes with it’s own challenges
Scalability, security ( peace of mind can never be quantified)and back up restorations makes it very valuable for any high volume data to be handled.
The. Loud migration as well as OS Migrations are lot easier than earlier ( 3-4 years ) back
