Overall Satisfaction with DigitalOcean
We are using DigitalOcean as the primary host for a number of different small client projects. We had previously tried alternative hosts such as AWS however, they were viewed as over complicated for our use case. Droplet hours are cheaper compared to many of their competitors such as Heroku Dynos.
- Simple UX makes it very easy to use and understand
- Billed hourly so no need to commit to a full month of billing
- Fast provisioning on SSDs
- As of now no DDOS protection functionality
- Hourly billing allows us to monitor our costs
- Simple to use interface allows us to work faster
- Heroku and aws
Cheaper than Heroku which is prohibitively expensive for a small self-funded startup. We quickly outgrew their free tier and migrated to DigitalOcean. AWS is more feature complete however, we found its maintenance overly confusing and not as well thought out. For many use cases AWS would be more appropriate but for ours, DigitalOcean came out on top.
