Overall Satisfaction with Dovetail

I’m a product designer and I used to analyze video call registrations. These are mainly sales calls or usability tests. My product is in early stages so understanding my user needs and pains is very important for me. We need to find the market fit. Sales calls are a lot, use cases are all very different. It’s not easy to map them all out and find patterns

Pros

  • Highlighting and tagging sentences in transcripts
  • Allowing to change and merge tags
  • Group by tag small video clips and transcripts to have a quick overview

Cons

  • Ai features are still not as good as other tools. I think it’s not handling well big context length. Notebook LM was more precise in not skipping data when transcripts were a lot. Also extracting some transcripts and feeding them to Claude had more precise results
  • Automatic highlighting with AI still isn’t working very well. Have to do it all manually anyways
  • I hate every time I open a recording it’s in a small dialog and I have to add extra clicks to open it full page
  • Improved decision making
I already discussed a lot AI features because I expect them to make my work faster. Right now as I mentioned they are still not helping. So I took time to experiment with them but positive impact was very low. Main use is taking a transcript and asking to sum up pains and needs of that prospect. Then I have to manually get that result and form my own report. Automatic reports don’t work very well, so much information is missed
This didn’t work out for me because since manual worked is still necessary I ended up exporting results and feeding them to a Claude project or skill shared with my org. This leads to higher quality results, is cheaper because we’re paying Claude anyways, and doesn’t imply particular extra work in my part
UX is intuitive didn’t have any particular friction

Yes

I feel it works very well with fewer recordings and manual highlighting. Also if it’s usability testing with mostly the user taking. With sales calls all ai features (smart highlights, chat, ai reports) get confused between customer and my colleagues speaking. I tried adding company info in the contacts section but it didn’t help. For usability tests all ai features work much better. However this is not my main use case right now.
