DraftSight is Effective, Intuitive 2-D Alternative
Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight
It is being used solely by myself to create equipment plan views for the systems that we fabricate. Additionally, it is used to create flow diagrams of our equipment. It gives contractors a dimensioned drawing to help in the building process.
Pros
- Works with other 2-d platforms.
- Meshes well with our 3-d software as well - SOLIDWORKS.
- Ability to easily print drawings.
Cons
- User menus and options is tricky to follow
- Not a fan of a subscription based service
- Snap feature setting are difficult to set and change at times
- It helps to clearly convey the scope of the project
I have previously used AutoCAD, the free version, and find DraftSight easier to use. This could be in part because I have spent much more time using DraftSight or because it was the free version. However, new features are added to DraftSight every year and to my knowledge, it is just as capable.
