Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is being used solely by myself to create equipment plan views for the systems that we fabricate. Additionally, it is used to create flow diagrams of our equipment. It gives contractors a dimensioned drawing to help in the building process.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Works with other 2-d platforms.
Meshes well with our 3-d software as well - SOLIDWORKS.
Ability to easily print drawings.

Cons

User menus and options is tricky to follow
Not a fan of a subscription based service
Snap feature setting are difficult to set and change at times

Return on Investment

It helps to clearly convey the scope of the project

Alternatives Considered

AutoCAD

I have previously used AutoCAD, the free version, and find DraftSight easier to use. This could be in part because I have spent much more time using DraftSight or because it was the free version. However, new features are added to DraftSight every year and to my knowledge, it is just as capable.

Other Software Used

SOLIDWORKS, Adobe Acrobat DC

Likelihood to Recommend

I would highly recommend DraftSight, especially if the user is familiar with SOLIDWORKS. From my experience it is easier to use and understand than the AutoDesk AutoCAD product.
