Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

We use the software for creating as-built drawings for site installation works, where points are taken by a GPS net rover and loaded onto Draftsight. We also use it for creating DXF files to be used in CNC plasma cutting once turned into g-code.
  • Can manage larger drawings without suffering any/minimal lag
  • Very intuitive to use, similar to other mainstream programs that are significantly more expensive.
  • Would like the ability to have preset colours for linetypes, hatching, etc. So, for example, I would set up a linetype that I would give a name such as "concrete" I would then have a linetype, weight, and colour that remains the same each time I select the "concrete" line. It could be the same for hatching; the hatch type, colour, scale, angle, etc., would be preset to a name, and all you would need to do was select which entity to hatch. Similar to selecting blocks. It would make updating drawings so much faster.
  • Similar to mainstream software like Autodesk, but doesn't come with a ridiculous price tag.
  • The jpeg picture to lined image function (not sure what its exact name is) is a very good feature. I have used it to import an image of an excavator we own [and] convert it to a lined drawing in order to produce a lift plan that shows an accurate image of the machine being used.
  • Because it's reasonably priced, it means we as a small business can undertake more complex work that typically only larger companies could do because they can afford the expensive software.
We have used Fusion360 and LT architect, both from Autodesk. Both are much more expensive. Fusion is unbelievably slow to load but is great for 3d, but obviously doesn't facilitate 2d. LT Architect is very stable and easy to use, but Draftsight offers a very similar experience for a more reasonable price. Draftsight can glitch in the idd place, for example, line weights changing unexpectedly, but it isn't a problem that is stopping me [from] using it. It's a great software package.

Yes

Did DraftSight live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of DraftSight go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy DraftSight again?

Yes

[...] It works very well for [2d drawings for construction]. It does have a 3d selection that I have found to be a bit clumsy and I prefer to use fusion360 for instead.
