Overall Satisfaction with Dundas BI
We use Dundas BI to monitor and act based on the state of a set of defined KPI's. It's used across various departments: finance, public works, provision services, organization workflow. As an example, some workflow tasks have a due time, so we track the ratio of the overdue tasks and act upon it, adjusting man power if needed or change the task execution time in order to optimize this ratio. We also use ad-hoc analysis to get a better understanding of the quality of the data being produced by our ERP's.
- Creating data analysis on the fly is very easy! You only need to create a data connector and from there you can start analysing your data just by draging and droping atributes from tables to the canvas!
- For executives with little time for viewing dashboards, you can create scheduled or data driven notification that can send the dashboard by email!
- At any time you can revisualize your data with different visualization, e.g., a bar chart can change to a line chart with just two clicks!
- DBI version 4 has introduced some awesome features: data correction, what-if-analysis, some new types of data visualizations like sankey chart, correlation matrix, support for svg files.
- I felt the need to create a calculated metric based on metrics from different metric sets
- We did manage to sell the solution implemented with Dundas easily
The ETL for DBI is much more easy than what I experienced when I used QlikView! The QlikView language for ETL was somehow different from anyother languages I used before, on the other side DBI ETL is workflow based, with nodes to perform joins, aggregations, filter and sorting! You may also used plain SQL to query your data!

Evaluating Dundas BI and Competitors
I needed a BI tool easy to use and at the same time with a broad set of features! It should have features like reporting, collaboration, rich data visualizations integration and data security. After exploring some BI tools, I've chosen Dundas. The elegance of the user interface, the drag and drop features turns simple the creation of dashboards and reports.
I wouldn't do anything different as I am extremely satisfied with the tool I elected for my projects.
Dundas BI Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Yes - As the solution implemented covers various areas of Local Government management, we had to get into this business areas to understand it well, this was the first phase. In the second phase, we have made several discussion with the client's experts in this areas to access the needs they had for analysis. The last phase, was the creation of reports and dashboards based on the knowledge we gather in the previous phases.
- Some bad client's data quality
- Difficult in understanding what they really want
Dundas BI Support
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Quick Resolution Good followup Knowledgeable team Problems get solved Kept well informed Immediate help available Support understands my problem Support cares about my success Quick Initial Response | None |
Yes - I did report some bugs and they were considered and resolved in a minor version of the product being deployed soon enough!
I do remember a time when I needed to have information privacy for some users (I needed that the information seen by the user would be filtered by the user logged in), and given that at the time there wasn't an out of the box feature to do this, they did provide me a get around solution that solved my problem and afterwards they created a feature for this, this feature is now known as "Secure Hierarchy".
