Overall Satisfaction with Flexera ONE

The business problem Flexera ONE solves is single dashboard to view cloud costs/spend. This platform also allows notifications on usage and automation to clean out specific resources or target groups/departments via desired scheduling. For example, to locate unattached EC2 volumes in AWS and delete them automatically versus each individual logging into their accounts, locating the volumes, and deleting them manually.

Pros

  • Connecting our CSPs into one single dashboard to view spending across AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI
  • Extensive notifications via emails to users or groups regarding resources that need to be reviewed in each CSP.
  • Automated cleanup of unutilized resources in AWS and Azure.

Cons

  • Onboarding had taken 3-6 months... too lengthy to get going.
  • Whitepapers / SOPs were generally incorrect or outdated.
  • Policies continuously errored out which caused incorrect data in reports.
  • Opening tickets and meantime to resolution was on average one week.
  • Positive impact is displaying spend in a single location.
  • Negative impact is time taken to get entire platform set up and integrated.
  • Negative impact is response time between support (located in India) and company employees (located in USA).
1) the platform errors out - once clicking into report findings the platform does not redirect to the correct location. 2) the reporting is often outdated or incorrect. 3) policies have to be updated manually and updated very frequently - policies error out if they are not up to date. --- It came down to build versus buy. After two years of ROI not being visible, we decided to build inhouse. In a few months, we've replicated Flexera ONE's entire platform. This will be more regular and is highly suggested as you have full control over every automated policy being applied in AWS, Azure, and GCP. The dashboard/visibility is also easy as you can use Grafana or Omni to ingest the cost utilization data.
We did not evaluate any other platform and went with Flexera ONE right off the bat since it was the only platform at the time to allow automated cleanup of cloud resources and this is what we were looking for. This was a costly mistake because it took extensive time to get the platform integrated and going.

Well suited for single pane dashboard of all cloud spending breaking down to group, user, resource level. This allows ability to track down users who have abnormal usage.
What is required from the customer's end is extensive time and resources to set the platform up and curate to their desired specifications. You need at least two people dedicated to managing this platform.
