Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I work at a school and Gemini is used extensively to various different purposes. As we have Google Workspace accounts, data used in the model is not used for further training so we are able to provide it with data that we would not be able to with a public version. We use Gemini for data analysis, lesson planning, student assessment and more.

Usability

Gemini is very user friendly and has a range of ways that it can be used. The website offers many handy addons, such as being able to analyse YouTube videos. The AiStudio allows for embedding within existing workflows to offer AI assistance. Gemini is also embedded in Google Workspace (for a fee) and offers great integrations.

Alternatives Considered

ChatGPT, xAI Grok and Microsoft 365 Copilot

I prefer Gemini because of how integrated it is with the rest of Google Workspace. It also can be used by the children to support their learning although as a school we have not pursued this opportunity yet. Gemini also has a better free tier on its API than competitors do, making it a great way to test out new features without needing to pay.

Gemini is fantastic for receiving quick answers to questions where accuracy is not paramount. It is great for brainstorming ideas. It is also fantastic for analysing large swathes of unformatted data and finding correlations. Gemini can also transcribe handwriting and audio files making it excellent for formative assessment. It can also now create Google Slides which is great for lesson planning. Gemini is only as good as the prompts you provide it with though so you must remember to be exact with your prompts to get the best outputs.
