What is Gemini?

Gemini is Great for Schools

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I work at a school and Gemini is used extensively to various different purposes. As we have Google Workspace accounts, data used in the model is not used for further training so we are able to provide it with data that we would not be able to with a public version. We use Gemini for data analysis, lesson planning, student assessment and more.

Pros

  • Quick data analysis
  • Transcription of handwriting or audio
  • Feature finding

Cons

  • Speed of processing (on pro model)
  • Accuracy of answers (on flash model)
  • Veo 3 should be able to use picture prompts when creating videos (without errors)

Return on Investment

  • Saves administrators time on data analysis
  • Saves teacher time on lesson planning and assessment
  • Allows for bespoke per student feedback

A Solid Tool and Everyday Workhorse

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Gemini is used as our backup ai by most team members, after Claude, GPT. Gemini is great for quick computing tasks and quick answers that we need when we don't want to waste our limited usage with other ai tools. We usually have less conversational interactions and more straight problem solving.

Pros

  • Spreadsheet formulas and modifications of csv files
  • schema markup
  • javascript code
  • meta titles and descriptions for web pages

Cons

  • Gemini could use improvement feeling more conversational and warm.
  • I don't like being asked in an A/B test for Gemini to compare two different responses.
  • Gemini needs more personality

Return on Investment

  • It's sped up some workflows
  • It's provided not accurate information sometimes
  • It's a great tool when used in the GSuite with sheets and other drive functions

Once you learn to craft your prompts can generate cool graphics

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Use primarily to generate images for event flyers and advertisements. We use clipart services, but a lot of the time is spent searching through hundreds of images to find one that does most of the things that are needed, then spend more time in Photoshop manipulating them to meet specific needs. Gemini is helping reduce that search/creation time.

Pros

  • Image generation
  • Poster copy writing
  • Altering existing images

Cons

  • Faces in generated images can be kind of scary looking, deformed.
  • When asking for specific text in an image, it often generates funky randomly spelled text instead.
  • Tried a bulk image search with uploaded png files to find the same images online and the links it provided were 404 errors instead.

Return on Investment

  • Saves time/labor costs in generating customized images for posters, etc.
  • Clients have been pleased with the level of art created.
  • Beginning to explore other ways to use the tool, such as basic copywriting to cut time/labor costs there as well.

Gemini -- Good backup.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Typically I use Gemini in conjunction with ChatGPT as a source for brainstorming ideas, analyzing data, research, and copywriting help. I've used it to help edit someone else's work, and I use it a lot for social media captions and things like that. Sometimes I've used it for competitor analysis as well.

Pros

  • It has been pretty good with rewrites and slight edits.
  • It has been helpful in project management.
  • It has been helpful with easy writing tasks like social media captions or holiday descriptions.

Cons

  • I think it can do better with writing -- typically I like ChatGPTs response better.
  • It was particularly helpful in a competitor analysis.
  • I like that it doesn't default to as flowery language as ChatGPT.

Return on Investment

  • Saves me time -- haven't measured how much.
  • Saved me hours and hours and hours and hours of time for competitor analysis and research.
  • Saves time with project management.

Gemini on the AI podium

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I used ChatGPT Plus as a reference in my previous organization, and Copilot associated with M365 in my current one. In both cases, I complemented their use with Gemini. When dealing with professional matters, you often need to compare information and opinions, especially when the source is AI. In addition to comparing it with scientific literature, traditional internet sources, etc., I usually use other, different AIs. The results are sometimes surprising.

Pros

  • The new image editing functionality surprised me
  • In general, file loading is better than in other AI programs
  • I think it's somewhat faster than other AI programs, or at least that's the impression it usually gives
  • Features like canvas and deep research are very interesting

Cons

  • The mobile app sometimes has problems, especially with long conversations; the website, however, doesn't
  • It's prone to hallucinations during long conversations, and other AIs like ChatGPT simply cut it off, which is also a problem
  • I've noticed that it tends to contradict itself if you test it or insist on arguments for and against the topic of conversation
  • I've noticed that it tends to provide more inaccurate information than other AIs; on the other hand, I also think it's the one that has made the most significant improvement recently

Return on Investment

  • The problem is that few companies conduct a serious study of the profitability associated with integrating AI into their business, but it clearly offers advantages
  • However, it is essential to have professionals who can leverage AI effectively; otherwise, the investment will be pointless
  • In general, AI can significantly reduce the time an employee spends on their work; however, it is necessary to define how that freed-up time will be used
  • Some companies are evaluating Gemini and other similar systems as replacements for people, but I don't see this as a general-purpose solution, and I still see commercially available AI technology as a long way off
