Overall Satisfaction with GitLab
In our organization, I work as development team member, I have to manage different code bases with a team of individuals. In that process, there are certain parameters for code reviews and quality checks for deliverables GitLab helps in implementing CI/CD pipeline for an efficient way to create deliverables it also provides shared and instance-based runners.
Pros
- CI/CD pipeline implementation
- AI tools for code review
- Version control of source code
- Privacy parameter implementation
Cons
- UI refresh takes time
- Limited feature on the general tier
- CI/CD additional scripting
- Positive ROI
- Developers know the tool well
- Handles multiple large codebases easily
Gitlab is an industry standard tool for version controlling of the source code with multiple features used by the developers to maintain efficient development process and scalable services integration on the larger code bases. Multiple tools like AI code review helps the reviewer to efficiently check and flag any irregularities before code is pushed in production.
In most repositories it is generally advised not to push certain variables and hashes, GitLab provides warnings and pop-ups if any of the irregularities are found. Gitlab allow admins to provide read write restriction on the users/developers of the repository which allows protecting the branches from faulty merges and commands.
Gitlab provides easy implementation of the CI / CD pipelines which helps in executing post development scripts like obfuscation and creating an executable this helps in efficient delivery process and also provides standard files to the client. These CI/CD pipelines help in putting standard checks on the codebase like version combability and naming conventions
