In my organization I work as Software Developer, and I have to manage several different codebases based on different plugins and websites, GitLab as version control repository management software, it helps in integrating CI/CD pipelines for streamlining delivery process, it also helps team management and issue tracking with code review functionalities.

GitLab is an industry standard software and provides alot of features helpful for the developers with a suitable price point. It has most of the features that are provided and are useful. Team management and security for the source code and restrictions helps achieve all the requirements to manage the codebases efficiently.

Security

If there are some environment variable or hashes pushed with the code, on to one of the branches it highlights them while code review and even if its is ignored it provides warning at the home page of the repository. If any user is provided with access to a branch they are restricted to all the other branches.

Continuous Integration

There are some rules, which can be added to the incoming pull request which allow the person who will raise them to see if it matches the standards of the codebase e.g. be it package versions or styling, naming conventions it also helps the reviewer to check for additonal changes and easily integrate to the production flow.

Likelihood to Recommend

As i have worked on many plugins based on C# and .NET, these plugin require a lot of scripting for delivering the executable and sometimes changing versions of dll become hard to manage, this is where GitLab comes in and helps instreamling the process and help integrate, CI/CD to efficiently create the executables. The UI updation sometimes is not accurate otherwise the software is flawless
