Global Shop Solutions ERP encompasses most of our business. We use it for cost tracking, inventory movements, accounting, quality, and more. Out of the box, Global Shop Solutions ERP solves most business problems. We've been able to implement custom solutions using Global Shop Solutions ERP's GAB programming language and continue to find ways to customize the software and make it more meaningful for our company.
Pros
- Flexibility. The amount of customizations available with and without Global Shop Solutions ERP programming are phenomenal.
- Visibility. There are so many ways to find and report on information.
- Auditing. Being able to see who did something is pretty good across the system and can be even more in depth with some key options turned on.
- Service. The Global Shop Solutions ERP service department is amazing and can solve most questions with one phone call. In the instance it's a deeper issue, they're usually resolved fairly quickly as well and I love that they do always end up finding the solution.
Cons
- The Quality modules could use a revamp.
- The table structure is the hardest part to learn because it's a little all over the place. If this was streamlined, people would be able to accomplish more.
- There are so many menu options they can get overwhelming. You can limit the impact on users by not giving permissions to the extra items, but it's also difficult to manage on the permissions side because of the sheer number of options. Function level security added a whole other layer of permissions that need to be maintained. Once it's set up, it's easy enough to maintain, but getting there is hard.
- The amount of time that we've been able to save in moving to more digital solutions has been the huge ROI we've seen. This is time back in people's day to accomplish new things.

We moved to Global Shop Solutions ERP from Visual. Even though the table structure in Visual was easier to learn, we gained a lot more visibility into things with Global Shop Solutions ERP. Visual was difficult to customize, you were required to use the consultant they assigned you, and anything not done by that contractor was not warrantied. With Global Shop Solutions ERP you have a ton of consultants to choose from, the pricing for them is very reasonable, and they are available readily. In our experience, Oracle was...horrible. I think if you have the need to take control of your ERP and be able to make changes on your own, Global Shop Solutions ERP is the only choice.

Evaluating Global Shop Solutions ERP and Competitors
Yes - Visual Manufacturing. We were changing ownership and needed to find an ERP solution. Sticking with Visual Manufacturing would have cost so much up front and the SQL server alone would have been upwards of 20K. That along with going through a seamless implementation of GSS in the past and all we accomplished in that short time pushed us to using GSS.

Cost. The cost and value you get with GSS can't be matched. Not only are the up front costs low, but maintaining it is easy, customizing it is easy, and what you get out of the box is enough to do most everything. We easily saved 20K on initial costs and continue to save with low quarterly retainers for our 35 users and 20 SFDC licenses.
I wouldn't make any changes because we ended up with the right solution.

No, there is no such thing as "Premium Support." All GSS customers get the same level of support. I appreciate that knowing that we don't have to spend MORE to get better service.
Yes - Yes, most bugs are handled quickly. We have had a couple of weird situations that drug on for a bit, but mostly because it wasn't easily replicated or it was an intermittant issue. Once we can tie down what's causing it, they're very quick to fix it. Hotfixes are released weekly and they have a list of what's in each. We have moved to applying those monthly because sometimes it fixes issues before it ever affects us!
My favorite help that I get from GSS is always regarding custom GAB projects. Global Shop has what they call ARC Projects which means if a customer gets a custom project, they'll make that available for other customers to use. Whether we paid for it or someone else, I appreciate that if there's an issue with that project, Service takes the time to fix it. This means less money for us and just in general standing behind EVERYTHING they put out there.
