We use GoCardless to take direct debit payments from customers wishing to pay by installments.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Makes it easy to set up a series of direct debit payments
Helps us to get paid more reliably
Provides a means to take one-off card payments without having our own card processing facility

Cons

The web-based admin dashboard for setting up direct debits can be a little confusing

Return on Investment

It has helped us to provide alternative payment options to our clients
It has helped us to secure regular and timely payments with the minimum of fuss

GoCardless provides a simple way to take one-off card payments or set up direct debits for customers. Payment links can be included on electronic invoices, and certainly, from a UK perspective, it provides a more professional appearance than using, say, PayPal for business-to-business payments.

Some services we provide (e.g., web hosting) are billed on a recurring basis. Operationally, and from an internal point of view, it makes sense to bill these annually. For cash flow, customers prefer to pay monthly, and we use GoCardless to set up monthly direct debit payments against our annual invoices. This keeps our customers happy while giving us our regular income without incurring the administrative overhead of monthly billing and payment handling.
