Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Gumlet to securely host and deliver videos for both internal projects and customer-facing work, with granular privacy controls and DRM baked in. It works out of the box yet offers deep configuration: upload videos, choose playback options, fine-tune resolutions, toggle DRM, and embed. Integration is straightforward, with copy‑paste code snippets for different environments. Unlimited bandwidth for livestreaming is another big plus. Gumlet has effectively become the backbone of our private video delivery stack, and it’s been fast and dependable from day one.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Video hosting - We rely on Gumlet for all privacy‑sensitive and premium content that we don’t want to put on YouTube. It gives us tight control over who can access what.
DRM - Whenever we need digital rights management, Gumlet is our default choice. It consistently enforces the level of protection we expect for our paid and internal content.
CDN - We count on Gumlet’s CDN to handle sudden spikes in traffic without impacting playback. So far, even large surges in attention haven’t caused any slowdowns or failures.
Live Streaming - We use Gumlet as the backbone for our live video delivery, whether we’re going live on social platforms or hosting webinars. It has been reliable, with smooth streams and no drama.

Cons

DRM Cost: Enabling DRM currently depends on obtaining Apple FairPlay credentials, which adds a meaningful extra cost to our setup.
CNAME availability: Including a custom CNAME option in the lower‑tier plans would be very valuable and make branded experiences more accessible.
Private subscriber limits: Raising the limits on private subscribers for Gumlet channels/profiles would better support growing audiences without forcing an early plan upgrade.

Return on Investment

Immediate returns: Using Gumlet to deliver customer video assets has been value‑accretive from day one.
Extreme reliability: We haven’t experienced downtime or noticeable slowdowns in video performance, which has allowed us to confidently charge a premium for our services.
Infinite bandwidth: The fact that we don’t have to worry about bandwidth overages when our video portfolio performs well is a major plus for both our customers and our team.

Usability

My rating reflects a combination of reliability, product experience, ease of integration, and consistently strong support over nearly two years. Gumlet has delivered excellent results from day one with zero drop in performance, and the product keeps improving without any dip in service quality - so it’s hard to find anything not to like.

Alternatives Considered

Vimeo

Gumlet beat Vimeo for us on two key fronts. First, it matched the Vimeo feature set we actually used but at a significantly better price point. Second, in both testing and real‑world customer implementations, we saw no performance issues at all. That combination convinced us to switch to Gumlet, and we haven’t looked back.

Likelihood to Recommend

Gumlet has been consistently reliable whenever we need to deliver video assets for internal projects or client work. As mentioned earlier, DRM protection and livestreaming are two standout strengths. We moved from Vimeo to Gumlet and haven’t regretted it. That said, if you need native social media integrations to go live or schedule posts, this isn’t the right tool. It’s also not ideal for monetized channels or large private audiences, as the current limits on private subscribers and profiles are relatively low.
