Overall Satisfaction with HPE StoreOnce

We use HPE StoreOnce for vm and agent based backups for Veeam. It is a wonderful product that works amazing well with top notch performance both in backups and in restoring content. We use this product across our entire IT infrastructure for all virtualization backups and agent backups. It is so successful we have upgraded from a previous model to this model due to its high quality backup functionality.

  • It is extremely expensive compared to other backup systems for vms
  • it is overly expensive based on the hard drives and storage per tray cost in a HPE StoreOnce. Needs drive size optionality
  • we recovered from a ransomware event years ago and we did it in a few days which we've heard of all kinds of poor recovery efforts from smaller companies on other backup system devices and software. Extremely happy with this
  • incremental and file based recoveries have been bullet proof with this backup system
It just works. It is extremely rare to have any issue with this backup system. Even adding extra storage to this array is simple and straight forward. Support is very good at ad hoc helping get storage expansion online timely and effectively. They just need to make this more forward adaptable for future growth and remove the forklift replacement process.
Nothing compares to HPE StoreOnce for speed, performance, recoverability, DR, 3-2-1 backup requirements, and even large virtualization environments. These are by far the best of the best for vm and agent backups. You just pay a little more than the rest. Dedupe, compaction, and compression is also second to none with a great interface on the array to see its housekeeping status and replication status.

Vm backups are the fastest I've ever had with this unit for any backup software system. Agent backups are the fastest ever to this device too. Veeam supported HPE StoreOnce for file backups way back. However, we discovered you cannot do this for large network drive scenarios. So, we have to have a separate backup system for file based share backups. it would be great to resolve this at some point in the future. Also, replication of a primary SO to a DR SO works amazing now based on the 52x0 series HPE StoreOnce units. The older 5100 series just could not cut it to copy to another backup target fast enough for large data backup consumers.
