Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions
We use IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions for 2 purposes. One is to create backups within the server as a running VM. This usage is nightly and weekly. The other is by creating a virtual server that replicates our main one to run and install any major applications or any major updates to make sure of the process and working out any issues before implementing on the actual server.
- Replicating complex machines like a server.
- Creating reliable and fast backups.
- The backup function can use a bit more speed.
- The ease of being able to find and recover any missing data from a particular backup date needs to improve.
- We had a competitor that was hijacked by a ransomware and it cost them a total of $55k and 5 days of being offline to recover the data. Our backups can at the worst, miss one day of work and we will be back up and running.
- The ease of mind to explore all different applications, knowing that the VMware allows us to use the virtual server to test them, is also very liberating and allows all possibilities when it comes to trying new software.
Being that OpenStack is a full cloud-based infrastructure, moving to a virtualized replication has had an overall positive impact as far as less complexity in the functionality of Stack vs. VMware, saving money by having the same basic needs met without having to pay the full price, and most importantly, having one location to go to for all your VM needs as opposed to toggling between two applications.

Comparing experiences, I have to say IBM's support experience is very pleasant, calls are answered fast, the agents are very knowledgeable and care about the issue at hand. The way the calls are handled as far as issuing tickets and transferring calls, it is very organized and regimented and this is a very crucial detail especially on calls that cannot be completed on the first contact.

We have previously used Veeam and while they offer a very good solution for the purposes of backups and virtualization, IBM's is superiors by far. I would imagine the years of experience IBM has in the industry has helped them come up with a more efficient version of the similar application.
- Veeam on IBM Cloud
There are still some jobs that are being run on our Veeam that is being integrated into IBM's very seamlessly. We are currently in the process of fully implementing IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions and removing Veeam and the capabilities offered by IBM gives us the confidence to do so. This reduces cost and complexity when it comes to backups and virtualization.
