Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Virtual Servers

IBM Cloud Virtual servers are one of the easiest VPS clouds to setup. Offering a lot of flexibility, high visibility on projected costs, and accurate estimates of setup time, it takes very little time and effort to get an IBM Cloud Virtual server off the ground. The wide variety of locations lets my industry, video games, select the appropriate location depending on relative player base location, a very helpful problem to address.
  • Many locations available
  • Fast setup time
  • Clear cost structure
  • User access can be confusing.
  • Not a friendly interface for those not familiar with cloud technologies.
  • Somewhat high price when provisioning Windows servers.
  • Lower latency for customers playing.
  • Higher uptime of customer-facing servers.
  • More options for customers in different regions to play on.
Transient pricing is effectively what allows my organization to utilize IBM Cloud Virtual Servers. This brings the costs of such services into the realms of possibility, as opposed to hiring a bare metal server, we are able to utilize smaller, agile flexible servers when the workload demands it, particularly in lower population regions.
We haven't used this service yet, but this is invaluable for companies looking to guarantee a successful launch of a multiplayer title. Often when releasing a multiplayer game, a high number of servers are only needed in the first 48-72 hours after launch, and to be able to reserve this capacity before that period is invaluable.
Dedicates hosts are something worth looking into for game development companies, particularly when looking to host a 'master server' that stores key information like player data. The extra layer of security this offers is invaluable in many contexts, and the fact that IBM has this as an option speaks to their knowledge of real-world security.
Microsoft Azure has an extremely poor UX experience, from trying to tell how much a service will cost, to actually physically finding how to set one up through the web UI. The UX of IBM Cloud Virtual Servers is much better, they're easier to setup and they show you what their actual costs will be from the start, it's all very clear.
  • IBM Cloud Virtual Servers
The IBM portfolio and being able to utilize both VPS and bare metal if we need to, is a great asset to our organization. The IBM platform allows easy compilation of all billing, resource, and statuses of our cloud infrastructure, and simply put, saves time vs. having to jump from one platform to another.
IBM Cloud Virtual servers are a great option for those looking to start out and explore the world of virtual computing and do so from around the world. As a game development company, they are a great option for those looking to deploy multiplayer games across the world with a wide range and high variety of server locations. It is perhaps less appropriate for startups in the game development industry due to high cost.
