Overall Satisfaction with IBM Planning Analytics

You can use it for deep analysis of sales data for example using Exploration View to show the total sales by product line generated by each sales representative, per area, then comparing that over time. You can then begin to complete "What if questions" - asking it to analyze the consequences of discontinuing retail sales compared to mail order methods, and what would be the likely implications on sales per region.

Pros

  • Analysis of really complex data
  • Testing of "What If" senarions
  • Summaring and projecting forward theories

Cons

  • Can be quite difficult to learn
  • is complex to fix it you get formula/setup wrong
  • there is a high learning curve
  • time saving in developing business cases
  • improved data accessibility
  • better accuracy of projections
IBM Planning Analytics is a really good tool for enabling scenario planning and the development of what-if analysis. It is particularly effective in using sales data to project future sales forecasts and what-if options. It is also really effective if you also allow it to process financial data as well as sales data
This was an older verions that was also very good, but the new IBM Planning Analytics is a far better tool that enables better scenario planning or what-if analysis.

Analysis of financial data, as well as Analysis of complex sales data. It is really good at calculating possible future scenarios and options, that can then be moved into business cases, to justify proposals for management. The business cases can then be reworked in a live scenario to generation other options.
