Overall Satisfaction with IBM Power System Virtual Server
We have been using IBM Power Systems Virtual Server for the last five years to shift some of the load of our mid-range business support systems from a physical standpoint to a virtual standpoint. For the time being, it is being used across our business department to facilitate customer management, billing, and accounting for our company. The main business problems that were addressed by this are (1) our aging infrastructure was replaced and (2) our systems were given a much needed boost of speed and availability. We are able to perform maintenance windows much less frequently and our uptime has been much improved. This has made us more efficient in getting our daily jobs performed. Things such as running batch processes no longer have to be performed at times of the day when usage on the system is low, such as early morning or late evening.
- Provides a great platform for previously physical servers.
- Provides a much needed boost to availability.
- Creates a much more efficient environment to work in.
- Moving from physical to virtual can be time consuming for complex systems.
- Cloud presence can be a slightly difficult selling point to cybersecurity professionals.
- Cost can rise depending on the amount of complexity put into the conversion of current systems.

- ROI is improved due to the fact that we now have more efficient systems that are less error prone.
- We require less employee time to perform the same amount of work as before the upgrade.
We really didn't consider any products other than IBM Power Systems Virtual Server when evaluating our move to a virtual, cloud-based platform. Many of our mid-range systems already perform well within the IBM ecosystems so we thought it would be best for us to continue to use that same ecosystem and provide as seamless a transition as possible.
