Overall Satisfaction with IBM POWER9 Servers

We use our POWER9 servers in our Innovation Center to showcase the technology and perform Proof of Concepts for solutions. The servers are used by our pre-sales engineers to understand the technology and customer demos. Our services organization also uses the POWER9 servers to maintain their skills and get hands on before customer engagements.
  • superior per core performance over x86 technologies
  • excellent memory scalability in a 2U and 4U space
  • easy to use and ver secure virtualization technology with PowerVM
  • need a more affordable small AIX sandbox option
  • IBMi still tends to be expensive from a SW perspective
  • We need less POWER9 servers than x86 to provide similar performance. Applications also perform faster on POWER9.
  • The TCO of POWER9 is much better compared to x86.
  • Our datacenter has limited power and cooling, using less POWER9 servers than other architectures allows us to meet our computing needs.
IBM POWER9 servers have demonstrated better performance per core and faster memory bandwidth over the x86 servers in our environment. Our benchmark testing of a handful of applications have shown POWER9 as the clear leader across all the tests.
POWER9 is excellent for data intensive and highly threaded workloads. Applications that are priced per core will also benefit from POWER9 servers as you require less cores to run the same workload when comparing to other architectures. POWER9 scales near linearly for most of today's applications. POWER9 servers are not appropriate for small applications that do not process a lot of data or need scalability.
