Overall Satisfaction with Freehand by InVision
I use it during a hackathon event conducted by a fellow higher education institution. The InVision Freehand board my team and I used was already prepopulated by the organizing committee with information, notepads, charts, diagrams, and embedded videos. The board was a great way to onboard attendees with background information which was very useful since we were working on it asynchronously. Coupled with a voice and video app to coordinate our meeting, we use the board's notepads to record our ideas and put them in a shared vision "bin." The board then got to be referred to multiple times during the hackathon and guided our thinking for the deliverable solution.
Pros
- Notepad sharing for brainstorming ideas
- Asynchronous (and synchronous) ideation work
- Embedding videos for onboarding reference
Cons
- Navigation was a bit confusing, tracking down my arrow among multiple group members was a bit of an effort at first as everyone was swooshing back and forth
- Not sure how you can implement this, but there are mouse movements intended to move the arrow within the board, and there are others intended to navigate between Window's desktop applications; would be best if only the first was captured and not the second (even though moving the arrow between applications may inadvertently pass the board)
- Did not use this, but maybe embeddable API can be useful for certain board use
- Sharing for synchronous and asynchronous work
- Notepads for recording ideas
- Flexibility in designing contents, including embedded media
- Unknown, not long enough to determine
