Use Cases and Deployment Scope

JAMS is used as a workload automation and job scheduling solution that runs, monitors, and manages jobs and workflows that support critical business processes in our enterprise. JAMS is a key component in ensuring that services are executed, monitored, and that exceptions are reported, with the relevant support resources notified in the event of an exception.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Batch processing across multiple platforms.
Centralised Scheduler to monitor and control all agents.
Easy to deploy/install and add Agents when required.

Cons

None spring to mind.

Return on Investment

Scalable - Agents added on demand and/or redeployed if required.
Marginally more expensive than legacy solution.

Scalability

Agents can be added as the environments scale and as monitoring requirements increase or decrease. We note that we pay only for the Agents that are required, and that we can utilize test Agents as we prototype environments prior to full production deployments. Not paying a full licence is a useful feature.

Support Rating

To date, there have not been "problems" with our deployment of JAMS as such. However, we do note that Support resources are available, responsive to queries, and knowledgeable on the application in the event that we need to raise a question. Support has been very proactive in this respect.

Likelihood to Recommend

JAMS is very well-suited to scheduling jobs across our platforms, including Windows and Linux, and serves as a centralized platform for controlling batch jobs, monitoring, and alerting in the event of an issue, particularly in the Cloud. JAMS does require the appropriate skillset to configure and manage, so this is an overhead to bear in mind.
