Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF
I use Kofax PowerPDF to generate portable documents from many applications, including CorelDraw, WordPerfect, and PaintShop Pro. It reliably generates PDF documents that accurately reproduce the layout and format of the original document. I also sometimes use it to edit PDF documents for which I do not have the original source. PDF documents were never meant to be edited and it does as good of a job as possible at this task. It is priced reasonably for the quality of the application.
- Accurate generation of portable docs from WordPerfect files (better than WP's own tool).
- Accurate generation of PDFs from CorelDraw, Corel PhotoPaint, and Corel PaintShop Pro.
- Acceptable editing of PDFs for which source document is not available.
- Allows signing of documents using digital certificates.
- PowerPDF sometimes adds a blank page at the end of the document when generating from an application. I then have to open PowerPDF standalone and delete the extra page.
- Could you please fix the "Couldn't find/load the 'locale' catalog for locale 'English_Canada.1252' message on launch? The current solution (change locale to English_US) is not acceptable.
- Great product! Not a lot to fix, IMHO.
- PowerPDF is less expensive than the competing flagship product - and I think just as good.
- Knowing I can always generate a PDF from any application that can print is a relief.
- So helpful to be able to edit PDFs for which source is unavailable.
I've been a PowerPDF user for many years (from back when it was Nuance PowerPDF). I rarely need to check the help manual to see how to do things. It is mostly intuitive. As with all products, you will probably find a few things you have to investigate how it wants you to do something. In my case, it always takes a minute of fiddling to figure out how to select and change fonts in a document I am editing. But once you learn the application, it is pretty seamless to use.
If there are any differences between PowerPDF and the flagship Adobe Acrobat product, they are slight. Although Adobe Acrobat is reasonably priced for large companies (volume purchases), it is ridiculously expensive for a single license or small volume purchases. Adobe has basically created a market for quality products like PowerPDF. Even if Adobe lowered its price at this point, I doubt I'd switch.
