Efficient and User Friendly
Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)
I am a professional technical writer who uses pdf a lot for publishing hard-copy documentation, especially converting pdf to Word and vice versa. I find Kofax Power PDF much more user-friendly than Adobe. Much better price-to-value, also. I will definitely continue using Kofax a my pdf tool! Even when Adobe Acrobat was the default organization application, I used Nuance for many years, I have already recommended Kofax to others.
Pros
- Better interface.
- Faster performance.
- Better, more accurate conversion that Adobe.
Cons
- The only thing I can think of is that after closing all open files, there is no Exit from the application window. The only way I can see is use the x in the top, right-hand corner, which is not the preferred way to close an application.
- Multiple people can work on the same documents in multiple applications in the same way with no learning curve to adjust for different skill levels.
- Everything is seamless, so no time is wasted searching for and resolving conversion anomalies.
- While converting from Word to pdf is seamless, the reverse is also true. The resulting document does not have text boxes that need to be manipulated. The same applies for Excel documents.
I really don't know what to say to describe "easy," because easy is a relative. All I can say is that compared to all the over conversion tools I have use, including xml, Acrobat, and FrameMaker, Power PDF is the ultimate in easy. I had been using the Nuance Power PDF since probably version 3...that is, a long time, so the switch to Kofax was a no-brainer. The price-value balance was perfect for me.
I used Adobe Acrobat for many years--decades, actually, because that was the default application for the companies I worked for. But I gradually moved over to Nuance over time, and as I became an independent operator, it is all that I now use. It is more user friendly, with pretty much the same features and functions. I tried the DC application, but it is more complicated and less intuitive than Kofax, the learning curve was difficult for me.
