Overall Satisfaction with Malwarebytes
The free version of Malwarebytes is part of an effective suite used to clean an infected PC and/or determine if the PC has been compromised. The paid version is a bit more proactive and can prevent malware. However, my main use case has been in the case of confirmation and cleanup of already compromised systems.
- Efficient targeted scans
- Cleanup of malware and adware
- Have run into one or two infections in the past that it had trouble removing once detected
- No individual anti-malware is perfect in my experience - I have certainly found infections it could not detect
- Updates in the free version were not always smooth and/or quick
- Improve infection cleanup efficiency and success rate
- Efficiently confirm systems intact and secure (as part of a suite)
- Avast, AVG, Norton Internet Security, Sophos Endpoint Protection and Spybot
Malwarebytes has an effective free version (some of the others do, some don't). Malwarebytes has a slightly different focus on the type of malware it looks for. As opposed to picking one winner, I would suggest selecting a well-reviewed paid AV, and possibly supplementing with Malwarebytes and/or Spybot where needed. For a free AV, Avast and AVG are quite good. Especially when using free solutions, a bit of overlap is ideal, as long as the software does not conflict (thorough research is ideal to confirm this).
