Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft 365 Defender

We currently use Microsoft 365 to protect all the clients deployed across our company. Since we use lots of Microsot products, having also the security features integrated into the 365 portal is very convenient cause we don't need to access various independent consoles to manage our infrastructure.
In addition, since Defender is obviously fully integrated with the OS, it provides unique funcionalities that aren't available in other third-party products.
  • Ransomware protection
  • Application control
  • Anti phishing
  • Security reports
  • Malicious links protection
  • Security policies deployment
  • Misleading informations inside the console
  • GUI changes too much frequently, as with other 365 products
  • Simplify IT staff work
  • Reduce software subscriptions cost
  • Enhance Windows-based systems security
We were struggling with trying to achieve a good level of security in our infrastructure. We were having problems managing the interaction between different software. We were often faced with conflicts that required disabling certain features to keep a software running. After migrating from an on-premise e-mail service to 365, we did not have an effective anti-phishing product.
We tryied this feture but we did not activate it across all out clients becasue we were afraid of causing some kind of issues. We want to test it a little bit more and address every required exception before applying it in bulk.
Connecting 365 Defender to our SIEM was pretty easy. This was possible also because our product has native integration with defender and we were able to consult a comprehensive documentation to configure it. I cannot tell how much it would be difficult to do the same activity with a different SIEM. We haven't tryed Microsoft Sentinel yet.
As already stated, the main advantage of Defender is being able to use a single console to manage it and all the other 365 applications. I can state that it provides a more effective protection than Bitdefender MDR and Trend Micro Apex One while I consider CrowdStrike on the same level.

Do you think Microsoft Defender XDR delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Defender XDR's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Defender XDR live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft Defender XDR go as expected?

No

Would you buy Microsoft Defender XDR again?

Yes

I think that for environments that primarily use Microsoft Windows and the 365 suite, Defender is the right choice because it simplifies the work of IT staff by unifying various features in a single console. It also does not add a significant cost for those who already have a high-level 365 plan.On the other hand, it is not the best choice for heterogeneous environments with different operating systems.
