Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Entra ID

We currently use Microsoft Entra ID in a hybrid mode with on premise Active Directory. We are beginning to use Microsoft Entra ID more and more, utilising SSO, Conditional Access, MFA, Intune and other features.

Pros

  • We find that the MFA feature, combined with the Microsoft Authenticator app, works really well
  • Leveraging SSO to control access to a growing array of apps
  • Just getting started with Intune but it looks very promising

Cons

  • Inability to nest groups
  • Conditional Access could do with more granularity
  • SSO
  • MFA
  • Conditional Access
  • Reduced need of tech support for tasks such as password resets
  • SSO provides a streamlined login process for many apps, again reducing the burden on tech support
Due to starting with on-prem AD many years ago, we have most of our IDs in on-prem but slowly transitioning to Entra ID.
We use Entra ID app registration, SSO and security groups to limit access to non-MS apps. Where applicable, we also provision from Entra ID.
We haven't really tried any other modern directory services, with the exception of on-prem AD, so not really got a comparison. Although Okta (SSO) was tested a couple of years ago by another department but it didn't gain traction. And we used to use SecureAuth (MFA) but it wasn't very seamless or easy to use.

Do you think Microsoft Entra ID delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Entra ID's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Entra ID live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft Entra ID go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Microsoft Entra ID again?

Yes

Using a local Active Directory for years, we have accumulated a lot of groups and nesting of those groups is inevitable. This doesn't translate well into Entra ID's flat structure.

Using Microsoft Entra ID

20 - It is predominantly our IT admins and architects that use Entra ID. These admins are split across various internal departments, such as tech support, infrastructure, business apps, platform, development, security, etc.
10 - To help support our various Entra ID users, tech support and enterprise support manage and monitor our environment. This ranges from user and group management to app registrations and policies
  • User and group admin
  • Access control
  • App management
  • We rely heavily on SSO and provisioning, using security groups to control much of the access
  • Hoping to be able to create a self serve app for group membership requests
  • Also create an app for onboarding and off boarding requests
Entra ID underpins pretty much everything do
