Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Entra ID

We generally use Microsoft Entra ID as our Identity and Access Management solution for users, accounts, devices, and workloads in the cloud. For example we'll use Entra ID credentials for logging into our VMs in Azure. Or we'll use Entra ID for provisioning proper roles to different users or applications depending on scope (like Groups Administrator). We also use it as a Privileged Identity Management solution and time based role access.

Pros

  • Seamless PIM
  • Connects well with Azure products
  • Easy to navigate

Cons

  • Difficulty in identifying enterprise apps
  • More detailed guides when running into a brick wall
  • More custom automation capabilities via scripts
  • More interfacing with Intune
In the cloud we have identities. It ranges from user assigned to system assigned identities for literally anything. For example, key vault access for specific users and/or resources in Azure. We use managed identities a lot. We do not have identities on prem, seems easiest to run with what we have in the cloud.
As someone who had a help desk technician role while we had Microsoft Entra ID deployed, it seems to be just another thing for the users but it's definitely made things more seamless. I would say it has its hiccups but not because of Entra but because of company policies like with passwords being easy to forget.

Yes

Microsoft Entra ID is great for SSO and PIM. It works across a ton of different scenarios like RDP into VMs in Azure and generally provisioning laptops to users (easy enough to spin up a new workstation and have Entra be how we handle accounts and whatnot). It's also good for ensuring we don't have global admin access forever, since we do need to use it somewhat often. But it needs more customizable automation capabilities and an easier way to get reports/data from the platform. Also some pages are just buggy and hard to read/use.
