Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Powerpoint

I use Microsoft Powerpoint to design executive presentations for C-level professionals. This product helps me tell stories based on data, to drive better business decisions. The shortcuts and customizations allow me to be extremely efficient in terms of time. Embedded tools like links to Microsoft Excel as well as add-ins for data visualization are extremely helpful in my scope. I also enjoy the online syncing of files, so that I never lose my data and others can collaborate with me at the same time.

Pros

  • Easy, customizable shortcuts like aligning objects, editing fonts and colors, etc.
  • Integration with Microsoft Excel for data visualization and automatically updated charts
  • Templates like table of contents that automatically link to the chapters are very useful

Cons

  • Smart Art can really improve its graphs
  • Tables should be defaulted to redistribute columns and rows
  • Sometimes the links to Excel files get lost and I never understood why
  • I wish there was an easier way to save graph templates and defaults in a same presentation
  • Microsoft Powerpoint has allowed around 10 people to work simultaneously on an urgent presentation, reducing around 3 days production time to 1 day.
It’s great overall! I can think of a few improvements that would make it a 10, for example: better Smart Art graphs, automatic distribution of columns and rows in tables, and being able to more easily save templates for graphs. For example, if I could determine that a same brand name in all graphs would have a specific color, it would be great.
Both Google Slides and Canva are way more complex to use than Microsoft Powerpoint. They have specific symbols that are hard to memorize, many tools are hidden, they are harder to navigate, and shortcuts are not customizable, which makes everything less efficient. Google Slides specifically has a way of misaligning objects, as its automatic ruler suggestions are very inaccurate when compared to Microsoft Powerpoint.

Do you think Microsoft Powerpoint delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Microsoft Powerpoint's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Powerpoint live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft Powerpoint go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Powerpoint again?

Yes

Microsoft Powerpoint is useful for building stories in an easy, intuitive environment and also in a fast and time efficient way. Its tools are more straightforward than other presentation software. I think it’s less appropriate when trying to show several data graphs, like in a dashboard, for which a BI software might be better suited.
