Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager

SCCM is being used to deploy new workstations, maintain workstation inventory, and apply patches and updates to operating systems and software. Our primary use is new workstation deployment and patching. We also use CM to deploy and manage Microsoft Endpoint Protection on our workstations. This software was purchased to optimize our hire on process.
  • Integration with active directory.
  • Integration with Windows workstations
  • Cumbersome and difficult to configure and manage.
  • Very few ways to manually process tasks; constantly waiting for CM to assess a system and determine if an update is necessary.
  • Requires far too much effort from a technician perspective compared to alternatives. Updating deployment packages, etc.
  • Purchasing SCCM for our organization was likely a mistake. Should have looked at PDQ Deploy and Inventory as it would likely have been more appropriate.
  • PDQ Deploy, PDQ Inventory, WSUS, MDT/WDS and FOG
Far more expensive than the alternatives. We selected SCCM based on feedback from an internal administrator that did not fully understand the scope of work required to build and maintain this system. Alternatives like FOG or MDT/WDS to deploy machine would have been virtually free and would accomplish the same goals. PDQ Deploy and Inventory is a much more cost effective alternative for deploying patches and maintaining inventory. WSUS handles Windows Updates fine.
Large organization where you have enough technicians and can dedicate serious time to managing the system and keeping packages up to date.
