Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We had a massive problem with phishing and impersonation of VIPs within our business with Microsoft Defender for Exchange (native). This because quite a concern in the run up to Christmas as naturally our staff would not be as focussed on identifying phishing emails especially those from VIPs who would naturally be working out of hours. Mimecast completely eliminated that risk for us and we now have minimal phishing emails, impersonation is not a concern any longer and I am not spending days a week trying to second-guess the next wave of phishing attacks to us. It's been a massive boon to the business as the IT function can spend the recouped time on improvements within our infrastructure.

Usability

Mimecast is an enterprise-grade system, it absolutely does its job and is among the best in the market. It does take learning for newbies but given this was the first time I've set up Mimecast from scratch I'd say it's not a massive learning curve and all the documentation is there, plus the support and account management is fantastic.

Ease of Integration

Took about 15 mins to integrate into Microsoft Azure/365. Easy peasy.

Impact

We used Defender for Exchange/O365 previously so a somewhat vanilla config to something with much more granular control. It honestly was much easier than I had expected, all done during my working days rather than late into evenings.

Using Mimecast has been transformational, I have visibility like never before on the attacks which are all consistently blocked and it has saved the business so much time in reduced greymail. I don't stress about email security anymore whereas I was 100% ready to be on call on Christmas without it. As you can imagine, I'm very glad to be able to take a day off without keeping an eye on phishing emails coming through.

Trend Micro Email Security, Panda Email Security, Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Tessian Cloud Email Security Platform and Barracuda Email Security Gateway

Mimecast is the most mature email security platform I've ever used in my nine years in industry and across MSPs, other work 'well enough' but the configurability of Mimecast is where it shines - it can be *exactly* how I want it to be. Given we work in a highly regulated environment this was essential for us, the granularity was non-negotiable and many other vendors really don't offer that in-situ.

Likelihood to Recommend

The ROI on Mimecast to my mind is immense, in terms of time saved and the protection it offers compared to inferior email gateway security (which we had before) it took less than three months. As the sole IT person at my company I don't want to be constantly tinkering - I want them to be set-up and work well, Mimecast works nearly out of the box and within a month I could trust it to do its job brilliantly.
