Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We're using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform to integrate our CRM software Salesforce with various other applications like SAP, AD, Workday etc. The integrations are invoked as APIs majority as REST webservices and for a small number of functions as SOAP Webservice. Many of these services are also opened for external use by proper authentications in place.

Plug-and-play compatibility with prefabricated connections
We can use XML, JSON, and Java for it.

Cons

RAML should be designed and compiled within the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform studio
The MCD Certifications come with only 2 years of validity which makes it costly each time to go for paid certifications
While developers can eventually master MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, it takes some time

Return on Investment

Mulesoft can be used to provide an integration platform to a large number of systems like Salesforce, SAP, and others
An excellent option to develop microservices and real-time integrations
Time saver as it is very fast in data transformation and prototyping the services

Usability

MuleSoft Anypoint Platform is really very easy to adopt for application integration. Simple UI and easy data weave language allows user to focus on business portion only. The API management and deployment of application are hassle free.

Alternatives Considered

Amazon API Gateway

AWS is a very good tool but still evolving and offers a small set of API management features. The main reason why we chose MuleSoft Anypoint Platform API Manager is because it is well suited with the APIs developed in Mule ESB.

MuleSoft Anypoint Platform can be beneficial to all customers with integration needs. There are platform entitlements that add features for every level of client needs. For just a few simple integrations, MuleSoft Anypoint Platform can be prohibitively expensive. While the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform Platform is a newcomer to API management tools, it still manages to be feature-rich and offers many resources for both API development and deployment needs.
