Overall Satisfaction with Nagios XI

We are using Nagios XI in our organization primarily for monitoring all our application servers and databases, this is helping us in addressing all the infrastructure issues in advance by alerting us when it any server hits the threshold as per the initial parameter setup also, we have integrated this tool with PagerDuty to alert us in needed based on the priority.

Pros

  • System Health check monitoring
  • Tracking system stats for period of time
  • Provides good graphs for the analysis purpose
  • Can manage any number of servers at a time without any glitch
  • Installation and Maintenace is pretty simple and manageable

Cons

  • From Nagios XI UI we can get some more features for heap and thread dump analysis based on collected gc logs
  • UI can make bit simpler as current one looks clumpsy.
  • Custom configuration takes bit while comparatively
  • Bandwidth monitoring is not that accurate need some improvement
  • It made positive impact on business due to its on time monitoring capacity and with that we easily find the affected systems in advance before they damage the business.
  • From Business side also clients use this tool for there business load analysis and also it helps them in forecasting the size of VMs
  • It has free tier as well so for small scale applications this helps a lot in finance as well.

threshold as per the initial parameter setup also it has free tier which helps for small scale applications monitoring to save some expenses.
Comparatively Nagios XI is better I feel because we can use this for both on -premises and cloud platforms as well Also it works on both traditional applications servers like tomcat WebSphere and also containerized applications like Docker and Kubernetes where in others are mostly restricted to containers based. Others are paid versions.

If anyone looking for the monitoring system for the infrastructure this is the go-to tool which monitors all infrastructure related components from server health to Networking and update us with mails and can be easily integrated with multiple other tools as needed for example PagerDuty , Also this suits good both on premises and cloud environments as well. If we are managing complex environment this tool for monitoring is best one.

Using Nagios XI

30 - We use Nagios XI mainly for monitoring our cloud hosted services and keep us alerted when any of the server hits threshold. It's UI & functions are good. Also has built in templates for various end points. It also provides graphical reports. With a Dashboard you can monitor easily all the parameters

I have been participated in the few implementations, and I would say its bit complex when its come to initial setup once its set post that its easy to manage

Change management was minimal - Since we work in product based we did not much with change management it was a direct implementation, so I am not sure on this much.

By considering the usage of the product it has all required features which supports the product and meet the customers expectations.
Nothing much but it works best on both cloud environments and inhouse environments as well so it will be good if we have latest OS systems to avoid and older OS vulnerabilities.

we did not purchased premium support because whatever base edition we able to achieve the goal so.
Once we were into situation that none of the alerts were generated for 4 hours in our tool due to some manual error, later Nagios XI team helped to fix the issue and that was very quick

Nagios XI Reliability

We have installed Nagios XI for our monitoring system and with this we are managing around 600 servers in total and not seen any major issues with its scalability we can scale it as much as we require and also installed on various applications servers and working as expected
Never seen any such outages with Nagios XI till day it was available all the time working as expected
Performance wise it does its best job we monitor more than 500 Servers and we use this tool for Analysis also so never felt any lag

Integrating Nagios XI

We have integrated Nagios XI with our inhouse tool called GMS and also integrated with pagerduty to alert us with calls when any threshold hits so these things are working as expected and not given any major troubles.

I would say it was one time activity initially we worked with customer support team once for initial setup later it didn't give any errors also its not that complex to integrate its doable

Integration with Nagios XI is not that complex they have made it easier, and we can customise this tool as we need so thats a very good option

Relationship with Nagios Enterprises

Since I was more into technical side not much involved during sales time but I heard the feedback that they were very responsive and its was good deal to get so overall good experience.
Post sales also they same as earlier so not much difference
