Nakivo Backup and Replication: a great solution even for small infrastructures
Score 9 out of 10
Vetted Review
Overall Satisfaction with NAKIVO Backup & Replication
We use Nakivo Backup & Replication to back up a customer's VMWare-based infrastructure: two ESXi nodes with ~15 VMs and a NAS to store their data. We needed something easy to implement, suitable for a small but growing infrastructure, and with a license model that could fit our not so huge budget.
Pros
- Great integration with VMWare
- Ease of use
- Great tecnichal and commercial support
Cons
- Nothing to report. I never had issues with this software.
- Ease of backup monitoring
- Single vendor to interact with

Evaluating NAKIVO Backup & Replication and Competitors
Yes - Before Nakivo we didn't really back the whole VMs up and only relied on directories\files backup via automated scripts.
- Price
- Product Features
- Product Usability
- Prior Experience with the Product
A consultant pointed us towards Nakivo due to his very positive experience and that was the key reason we picked it.
Yes and no.
No - We now use Proxmox Virtual Environment + Proxmox Backup Server for almost all our customers. Nakivo does not work with Proxmox VE, nor it has any reason to, since Proxmox BS integrates smoothly with PVE.
Yes - If I were to acquire a customer with a pre existing VMWare based infrastructure I would definitely choose Nakivo Backup and Replication again.
- Iperius Backup and Acronis Advanced Backup (formerly Cyber Backup Cloud)
Nakivo seemed more "solid" than Iperius Backup (even if we use it for tiny customers), was more affordable than Acronis and our partner had been using it for a while and was very satisfied.

I didn't, but now that the support license is expiring I had no doubt whatsoever when they asked me if I was going to renew it.
I found the licensing model pretty hard to understand and I was struggling to find what was the right thing to buy. A Nakivo representative contacted me and spent over 30 minutes on the phone with me pointing me in the right direction.
