Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Autonomous Database

Oracle autonomous database is being used by our organization in all environments, like dev.qa and prod. The capabilities are yet to be tested in all aspects, and we are evaluating the product and planning to upgrade all of our Oracle 11g and 12c databases to 19c in the next couple of quarters.
  • Availability.
  • Scalability.
  • Autonomous.
  • Good transactional and data warehouse processing database.
  • It's easy to implement.
  • TDE integrations: today TDE set up needs a lot of environmental setup, and with different configurations, like cdb, pdb, data guard, and golden gate. The product should integrate the TDE by default into the product, and also the Golden Gate is a separate install which also should be integrated, and people will decide based on the use.
  • Oracle Autonomous Database, and the safe harbor statements, are good, and when it comes to availability Oracle should control the number of bugs we hit every year, and they need to test all those bugs and the impacts before they release. They may be doing it today, but still, they need to invest their money into it. Even TDE is new and needs to improve a lot. The troubleshooting with TDE and skill level in Oracle needs to improve.
Oracle Autonomous databases as advertised has a lot of new capabilities for the future, and they all need to work. And if all these work, the availability and scalability of these technologies needs to be very high. I have tested Oracle and Postgres. With Oracle, and all of these high availability capabilities, Oracle is far ahead in the game, and they need to keep things simple and Change their License process. They need to concentrate on making these available to small and medium based companies with decent pricing options where they could offer.

Do you think Oracle Autonomous Database delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Oracle Autonomous Database's feature set?

Yes

Did Oracle Autonomous Database live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Oracle Autonomous Database go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Oracle Autonomous Database again?

Yes

Oracle is good OLTP and DSS, but this product needs to improve in the IN-Memory and NO SQL areas. They should make patching easy. With the current process, applying patches has been such that every time we apply a patch, we need to request a new patch for the current version, and then keep repeating this every time, and this needs to be improved. The patch utilities should have the ability to roll back the patches or skip the conflicts and continue forward without human intervention.
