Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

We used Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse for querying large datasets and its Database service for managing relational databases.

Business Problem Solution:
Handling changing traffic was a challenge for us and for this we needed dynamically scalable storage resources, which was achieved using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
We currently operate on environment where we are using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for our new projects while also migrating the legacy systems.

Pros

  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure helps you dynamically scale the compute and storage resources.
  • It offers competitive prices when compared to other providers, which is great plus. Also, the free tier is available which comes handy for running smaller instances or personal projects.
  • Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse also integrates well with Oracle analytics and is useful for exploring and visualizing data fast.

Cons

  • Initial setup is time consuming and can be complex, there a longer learning curve for first timers.
  • Documentation provided is vast, which can seem inconsistent and also confusing at times.
  • The user interface could be improved to make it more user-friendly
  • Using OAC has decreased the time in decision making, it has improved responsiveness of the investors.
  • There is a reduced dependency on Business teams for creating reports and manual analysis.
  • Support for scalable growth has reduced the total cost, since pricing based on consumption makes it cost-effective
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure performance is good in terms of querying large datasets, and is also consistent. It integrates well with other third party applications, and doesn't noticeably seem to slow down.
Complex analytical queries and reports are processed efficiently even with larger datasets. Auto-scaling has been useful for traffic handling as this is a major challenge for any application.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure typically offers lower pricing for compute and storage than AWS. There are no hidden charges, it is more transparent. It is built for running oracle databases which the application was using, and licensing is more cost effective as compared to AWS.

Do you think Oracle Cloud Infrastructure delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's feature set?

Yes

Did Oracle Cloud Infrastructure live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Oracle Cloud Infrastructure again?

Yes

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), AWS Lambda
For a scenario, where there is a requirement for dynamic scaling of storage resources, i would recommend Oracle Cloud Infrastructure i.e. for large query sets because if you using oracle databases, you can check OAC for embedded analytics, that will visualize the data for storytelling to business users.
The initial set can be a bit challenging, and if you rely on documentation too much, then that could be confusing and time consuming.
