Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is in use for the company primary domain, which is at the core of the companies business model as it touches the website as well as email communications. As a robust solution, it keeps DNS responsive and resilient, ensuring that people can reach us at any time of the ay or night.

Fast DNS query responses
High and fair priced QPS allowances
Ease of use from an administrator perspective as the console is intuitive and simple to navigate

Cons

Simpler billing interface
More responsive sales team to provide relevant QBRs to ensure proper and best practice use of the product/platform
Integration of the Dyn ECT Managed DNS with Dyn Domain Registration would be a nice feature as currently I have to manage two consoles and billing accounts.

Return on Investment

It has been a set it and forget it system requiring little in the way of ongoing management
Since records are easy to update, changes to attached systems are simple to deploy and changes are near instant
As it does not require attention, we don't need to invest additional time in management and can focus instead on other business needs

Alternatives Considered

We have been using Dyn since before it was acquired by Oracle and has never failed us. I have used other DNS providers in the past, mostly from the domain registrars, but those have lacked features and availability of certain types of DNS records. In addition, the management interfaces for such "built-in" DNS servers are less than optimal and have lead to confusion and incorrect DNS record updates.

Support Rating

My single contact with the support team was in regard to a special kind of DNS record that was required for our Salesforce deployment and CDN. The support team was knowledgeable, responsive, and was able to enable the feature that I needed with little to no resistance. It was easy to work with them and I got what I needed in short order.

Usability

The interface is geared toward skilled sysadmins and engineers which keeps the clutter down and keeps the actions in logical places. I also appreciate the Publish feature so that any changes can be simply and categorically reviewed prior to pushing out to the global DNS. This built-in fail safe has made a difference when updating mission critical records.

Likelihood to Recommend

For any company that needs a robust DNS service that can handle high QPS volumes without latency or lag, Oracle Dyn is the best that I have used. I can always rely on the backend infrastructure to ensure that DNS isn't a bottleneck for website performance. I have never had to open a support ticket for any issues and published changes to DNS records are nearly instantaneous across the globe.
