Overall Satisfaction with Oracle eBusiness Suite

We’re running Oracle eBusiness Suite for most of our business processes throughout all our companies, business units and countries. Areas attended by the different modules are: accounting, fixed assets, purchase orders, payments, sales, invoicing, production, stocks, projects, and asset maintenance. We have the solution implemented on a corporate basis for three different countries, for more than 15 companies and working with two different languages.
  • Huge integration between the different modules
  • Matrix account plan, based on the concept of flex fields, are much more flexible than the traditional hierarchical concept (once the account department understand the new concept and possibilities)
  • Very broad solution, with functionality for almost every area of the company
  • Good integration with other solutions complementary to eBS modules
  • Responsibilities definition and control can be a nightmare if you have to be SOX compliant and to respect segregation of duties. Specific modules for this task are available from Oracle at crazy prices.
  • Taking developments from a non-productive environment to production has a lot of room to improve. eBS doesn’t have a mechanism as other ERPs do, so you need to develop your own tools or think in some other solution.
  • When you work in countries with extremely complex taxes and withholdings, such as Argentina and Brazil, standard tax engines are never enough, even with the localization package. So you need to think about (a lot of) extra money to develop customs or to implement local solutions and cope with all the necessities. But I have to admit that the same happens with all the world class ERPs.
  • With Oracle implementation we had replaced about 10 different systems with a single instance system attending every country and company.
  • It allowed us to keep growing (in companies and businesses) with minor growth in the payroll.
  • Oracle eBusiness Suite's continuous evolution and improvements allow us to accompany new needs without major investments.
  • Roll outs for acquired companies are very fast, so the new companies are very soon working with the same processes and culture.
  • SAP and Totvs
Before making the decision, we also analyzed Totvs (Brazilian very strong solution) and SAP. We discarded Totvs because at that time support was very weak in Argentina and Uruguay. We made a comparison between eBS and SAP. Since they both have almost the same modules and functionalities (I truly believe that you can make a one to one matching between both solutions), we made the decision mainly for a more clear implementation strategy and lower costs.

Excellent for a multi-national enterprise, with several companies and/or business units, with intercompany-eliminations. Companies should have a certain level of organization, with the same maturity in procedures; on the contrary, it can be extremely inefficient for companies with procedures full of “exceptions”.

Licensing, implementation and supporting costs might be very prohibitive for small companies.
