Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Linux

It was being used to host Oracle databases and APEX applications. Idea was that using Oracle Linux with Oracle products will make our Oracle world much easier. It has been set up like this for some time.
  • Actually none from our experience.
  • Tech support
  • Compatibility
  • Easy patching
  • [In my experience] it was disaster to patch/update.
  • [We had] issues with Oracle wallet when patching (which could be critical).
  • Compatibility with software is not so great [for us].
  • There are issues left and right, [in my opinion] stay away from it.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
[In my experience] RHEL has been a much better solution. We have migrated many Oracle DBs from Oracle Linux to RHEL and patching and upgrading so far have been fairly smooth. We don't have random issues that are not Linux related but Oracle related, most of them are related to Oracle wallets that could be critical to Oracle infrastructure (depends on the environment). The performance of RHEL on the same hardware seems to be just a touch better, but many won't really notice it.
In my experience, the worst support I ever had to deal with and they are the most expensive one out there. In some instances, I actually tell them how I resolved the problem. Not to mention that when I create a "prod system down-ticket", they responded with an email instead of a phone call... 2 hours later...

Do you think Oracle Linux delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Oracle Linux's feature set?

No

Did Oracle Linux live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Oracle Linux go as expected?

No

Would you buy Oracle Linux again?

No

[In my opinion] it is a horrible solution. Compatibility even with some Oracle products is questionable. Most of our solutions have been stable and not been touched over years, we decided it is time to do some upgrades and patches. [In my experience] it was nothing but a nightmare and support is even less helpful. For most of the answers, you have a better chance of googling to find it, rather than asking tech support (that you actually pay a lot).
