Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook
We use PitchBook quite frequently in our specific team, the Syndicated & Leverage Finance group. The main areas we use are the Credit Research and News Function, along with the various e-mail blasts we receive on how the overall debt markets performed that day. We also rely on the weekly and monthly write-ups to inform our own market research. Overall, we rely on PitchBook quite frequently, especially to check on the terms of new institutional debt issuances that have been publicly disclosed. We also rely on the deal write-ups from PitchBook to check on transactions that were completed in the past and also to learn about specific terms on any particular debt transaction.
Pros
- Weekly and Monthly Write Ups
- Has a large collection of data and databases available for download
- Fairly current and timely with public announcements of deals
Cons
- Since PitchBook acquired LCDComps, the website's user interface isn't as easy to use / intuitive
- Sometimes, there are charts provided in the write ups, but we aren't able to access the actual data
- All of the various product/service offerings are combined into the main page, which makes each page very busy
- PitchBook is a big time saver given the various publications, data sets it provides
- Given it's fairly up to date / real time, it's easy to stay up to date on the latest deals
- By utilizing the pricing data of deals, it can help provide guidance on what we pitch to companies
Given private markets data is much more limited, the quality is more hit or miss. Sometimes, the quality is great and other times, the quality could be less. But this isn't specific to PitchBook as finding quality data regarding private markets is difficult through other vendors as well. Generally however, PitchBook is one of the first place I check before checking other sources.
