Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook

I use PitchBook on a daily basis for private company intelligence. In my role as a private markets investor, it is crucial for me to have access to this data, and there is no better platform to access data on company valuation, financing, and taxology/industry classification than PB. I use the platform primarily for sourcing new deals and studying industries of thematic interest.

Pros

  • Provide data on company funding history
  • Enable to construction of filtered lists for screening companies
  • Provide data on other investment funds

Cons

  • The time to load PitchBook web pages could be improved
  • Pitchbook's delivery of comparable companies for a given target profile could be improved
  • Sometimes the contact information listed on PB is wrong
  • PB could offer more private company operating data like revenue and earnings
  • ROI from PB is high given it is a key resource for my ability to find new deals
  • PB offers data that is largely otherwise unavailable, so time savings are high
  • The ROI of the plug-in feature is high too given the ability to quickly access info when surfing the web (outside of PB's website)
The team there has never been anything but polite and professional in my interactions thus far
The quality of PB's data is generally strong. I have often been astounded when looking at the legal docs of companies we evaluate to find that PB's valuation data is indeed accurate. We utilize funding data from PB to understand the capital stage of a company. This information helps inform our decision to reach out to the business and/or helps inform our perspective on a given industry.
PitchBook is generally easy to use given the intuitive nature of the search functionality. The largest area of improvement here is in its company screening pages, which could be made more intuitive to navigate. Another area of improvement - as previously noted - is the website's load time when logging in. Otherwise, its use is straightforward.
PitchBook has the most accurate and complete data. CB Insights platform loads slightly more quickly and is a little more intuitive, but lacks data integrity. Tracxn is not easy to use, but offers some data on a lot of international and small, non-VC or PE-backed companies. Overall, the most important element is data contents, completeness, and accuracy, all of which PB wins.

Do you think PitchBook delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with PitchBook's feature set?

Yes

Did PitchBook live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of PitchBook go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy PitchBook again?

Yes

PitchBook is great for screening for new companies, especially by funding or valuation levels. PB is less well-suited than other platforms for public company data and in certain circumstances for international company data.
