Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook

We use it for understanding general private market data and also completing fund searches. It allows us to understand the wider themes, and provides good content in their reports which helps with us creating views on asset classes / topics / sectors.

This is important as we are looking to expand into new ideas, therefore having a reliable data source is key.

Pros

  • Really detailed search tool
  • Customer help centre is really useful
  • Easy to understand layout

Cons

  • The categories for funds/investors are sometimes too general - therefore makes it hard to do specific sub-asset class searches
  • Some of the info is wrong / lacking for certain managers/firms
  • Some of the market info could be more consistent and general
  • We now always include using PitchBook as part of a manager search to ensure we're not missing anyone
  • It's allowed us to spend less time looking for market wide data, as we can source PitchBook a lot more
The team has always been super useful in helping me build searches and put in the correct filters to ensure I get the right outcome I'm looking for. They've always been quick to answer and very efficient in helping. Arguably the best part of using PitchBook and has made my life at least much easier!
Some of the data quality is good, but in some cases the categories of investment managers are wrong, or there is limited data on funds.

For example, track record for IRRs and multiples always seems out of sync. There needs to be more GP consent to get data directly from them, rather than using LPs.
Pretty useful. There's arguably too many categories to choose from and you can get lost into which filters to use. I like the overall look, but there are loads of words n the page, and the lists of content can be hard to scroll through. It needs more easier content exploration.
Preqin has better market data, but PitchBook is better for looking at individual funds.

I think the key thing is both are lacking in the data quality, and I would rather have no data than poor data.

I think it's shown in that market participants use Preqin for general private market date, whereas for specific loan info PitchBook is better.

Do you think PitchBook delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with PitchBook's feature set?

No

Did PitchBook live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of PitchBook go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy PitchBook again?

Yes

Finding a list of largest PE buyout firms and breaking it down. There's some good categories to break data into which makes it useful for some searches, so for example if we were looking for European focused large PE firms, it can create a really strong list we can use, because the data is there.
