Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook
We use it for understanding general private market data and also completing fund searches. It allows us to understand the wider themes, and provides good content in their reports which helps with us creating views on asset classes / topics / sectors.
This is important as we are looking to expand into new ideas, therefore having a reliable data source is key.

Pros
- Really detailed search tool
- Customer help centre is really useful
- Easy to understand layout
Cons
- The categories for funds/investors are sometimes too general - therefore makes it hard to do specific sub-asset class searches
- Some of the info is wrong / lacking for certain managers/firms
- Some of the market info could be more consistent and general
- We now always include using PitchBook as part of a manager search to ensure we're not missing anyone
- It's allowed us to spend less time looking for market wide data, as we can source PitchBook a lot more
Some of the data quality is good, but in some cases the categories of investment managers are wrong, or there is limited data on funds.
For example, track record for IRRs and multiples always seems out of sync. There needs to be more GP consent to get data directly from them, rather than using LPs.

Preqin has better market data, but PitchBook is better for looking at individual funds.
I think the key thing is both are lacking in the data quality, and I would rather have no data than poor data.
I think it's shown in that market participants use Preqin for general private market date, whereas for specific loan info PitchBook is better.
