Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook

I use PitchBook for researching potential investments, especially in the tech and AI sector. It is great for initial market research, and it really becomes handy when you need to look up non public companies including nascent startups. PitchBook has all the basic information of a company, and it has financial information, investment history and valuation, which is very much needed in working as an investment professional.

Pros

  • Financial information
  • Valuation history
  • Basic information of the company
  • Market landscape

Cons

  • They can provide a more tailored approach for market research like forrester or CB Insights
  • They can provide more detailed financial information, especially P&L data
  • Make the app more intuitive to use
  • It saves me time to do research
  • It improves my workflow since I can share it with my colleagues
  • Executives trust the source PitchBook
PitchBook provided good customer service. There was a dedicated accounts manager that regularly contacted our team to see how we were doing. They were responsive in requests via email or through virtual meetings like Zoom chat. they also provided ample information before we decided to purchase PitchBook and also granted some trial period for us to test out.
We use PitchBook for pretty much every workflow of our investment work. Starting from market research, company research, valuation and making executive report material. The market research part needs some improvement since the markets defined by PitchBook is a little vague and too broad, limiting the usability. But everything else from company research has good information quality.
I rely on PitchBook when researching potential investments, particularly in the tech and AI space. It’s an excellent tool for early-stage market analysis and becomes especially valuable when evaluating private or emerging startups. PitchBook provides all the essential company details—financials, funding history, valuations—which are critical for my work as an investment professional. The three points I took out is for the lack of market analysis framework and the lack of P&L data.
CB Insights have a better market research functionality, offering pre-defined market definitions and proprietary framework for market analysis. They list all the significant players within a market and classify them into categories, which gives you a sense of who is doing well in the market. Also, it has a nice AI functionality where you can ask for a quick summary.

Do you think PitchBook delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with PitchBook's feature set?

Yes

Did PitchBook live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of PitchBook go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy PitchBook again?

Yes

It is suited for larger companies who seek to find potential M&A deals. the depth and breadth of information is grand. For venture capital and consulting, other market research tools might suit them better since PitchBook's market research tool feels quite limited and unintuitive. For example, Forrester, CB Insights all have their proprietary framework for analyzing a market.
