Planview is a reliable, complete, and easy to use PPM
Modules Used
- Portfolio and Resource Management (formerly Planview Enterprise)
Overall Satisfaction with Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)
Planview is used by the IT department for project portfolio management, project management, and timesheets. By planning each project and the required resources needed, we can optimize the execution and identify risks in advance. The project managers have an easy and complete tool to track project status and support organization decisions.
- All the aspects of project management are covered (plan, baseline, resource, risk, issue, change, and financial planning)
- Resource management is effective; various allocation type offers flexibility (allocation, authorization, reserver)
- Project planning is easy. Different perspective are available
- Outcome management allows for creating products and services roadmap
- There are many tiles and reports but they could be more flexible (more filters in standard tiles and a better reporting system)
- Could be useful a better integration between planning and ticket system
- It improves project portfolio control, resource optimization and project planning.
- Help PM and team members to schedule their activities and increase internal culture.
Compared with other systems, Planview is much easier to use. It has the right balance between functionalities and configuration. It offers a good value against the cost. It offers also a cloud service that help companies to start with the right effort.
The initial configuration was made by a Planview consultant after an agreement about the scope. Like other similar projects, after the initial configuration, we requested changes that were managed by a local consultant. After a period of system usage, we managed to change some configuration but we always require external support to use new processes.
Unfortunately, we don't use the enterprise architecture (formerly Troux) even if we are investigating this area. In my opinion, the combination of PPM and enterprise architecture allow companies to have a better understanding of the infrastructure and the planning of strategic goals. From a system perspective, there are savings to have it all in one system.
In our configuration, all IT people have free access to project and resource information, having a better understanding of what is the work planned, when is planned and the resource engaged. This is a way to improve collaboration and transparency. We are planning to share this information with other departments.
