Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our Pure Storage FlashArray is used as a primary storage platform and supports all of our on-premise workloads. The entire platform is currently used for a VMWare cluster.

Pros and Cons

Supporting latency sensitive workloads such as databases.
Ease of administration. The platform is very easy to setup and requires almost no day to day management.
Integration with VMWare vCenter.

VM level performance monitoring.
General improvement to management interface.

Return on Investment

Lower support overhead with quick and easy implementation.
Increased performance of virtual workloads.

Support has been excellent with the majority of calls being logged proactively as a result of monitoring. For customer logged issues, the response has been good with the account team providing any additional support or escalation as needed.

Alternatives Considered

HPE Nimble Storage

I have used Nimble all-flash arrays which are very similar. The Pure Storage FlashArray management interface is slightly better, however, Nimble was much better in terms of information available via the cloud monitoring and management via Inisight.

Innovative Uses

We were able to increase frequency of replication to improve DR RPO and RTO.

Other Software Used

VMware ESXi, Microsoft Office 365

Likelihood to Recommend

Pure Storage FlashArray is well suited to high-performance computing, virtualisation, hybrid cloud, and VMWare. I am not so sure it would be as capable as some other systems in large multi-tenant environments.
