Overall Satisfaction with QuarkXPress

Use the product to produce a weekly newspaper. Using a pre-set template, Quark works well for basic media production. Not too many problems with crashing, though there are issues with corrupted media files nearly every week. Does what it's supposed to and older versions are inexpensive. Would recommend it for this purpose.

Pros

  • Page Layout.
  • Newspaper Production.
  • PDF files.

Cons

  • Often slow.
  • Corrupted photo files.
  • Wonky control features.
  • Layout.
  • Layers.
  • PDF production.
  • On different computers, it does crash.
  • Issues with accidental (program) photo overrides.
  • Corrupted photo formats.
InDesign is also very strong and the industry standard. However, Quark does retain:
1 The older format of page layout programs, which is a bridge for new and older employees.
2. Is less expensive.
3. Is an individual license, rather than a subscription model.
This would make the use of InDesign less likely in the future.

Worked like a charm for what we needed at a small, weekly newspaper. We use it on multiple computers, including my own. I use the program for the first and last drafts of the newspaper before they go to press. No major issues with its use and has been steady for the last half-decade.
