Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write

We use Read&Write across our school district to support students with a wide range of learning needs, including those with IEPs and others who benefit from extra support with reading and writing. It helps remove barriers to curriculum access by offering tools like word prediction, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and text simplification.

Our Assistive Technology team provides staff training and implementation support, and we promote Read&Write as a universal tool that can help all students build independence, increase access, and stay engaged.

Pros

  • Creates vocabulary lists for students that include symbols, definitions, and space to add additional notes or images (a staff favorite)
  • Intuitive word prediction that supports spelling, grammar, and reduces the number of keystrokes needed
  • Text-to-speech on any digital text using the regular reader or screenshot reader, making almost any content accessible

Cons

  • translation-- looking forward to when Read&Write integrates the full page translation that Snap & Read had
  • would be amazing if word prediction could include some symbol support (with Symbolstix?)
  • would love to be able to set a grade level for simplify page or for the vocabulary used with rewordify
  • really miss the outline tools available in Snap & Read and hope those will be coming to Read&Write soon
  • I wish speech-to-text had more specialized tools to learn a student's voice that has a speech disability (such as VoiceItt)
  • Increase student engagement and independence, especially for students who previously relied on more adult support
  • Save time for staff by offering built-in supports like text-to-speech, word prediction, and vocabulary tools
  • Enhance the overall learning experience by allowing students to focus on content rather than being limited by reading or writing barriers
  • Improve access and inclusion by providing tools that support a variety of learning needs
One of the things we love about Read&Write is how flexible it is. It works across platforms, devices, and content areas, so it’s easy for us to support students no matter what grade they’re in or where they’re learning. Since most of our students use Chromebooks and Google Classroom, it’s been really helpful that Read&Write integrates so well into those tools.
This past fall, we led a professional development session on Read&Write for an entire high school staff in our district. Going in, we anticipated some hesitation or concern that the tools might not apply to every classroom. Instead, we were met with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Teachers shared how valuable the tools would be for their students and how much they appreciated having access to supports that promote independence and access for all learners. It was especially encouraging to see such strong buy-in at the high school level, where adoption can sometimes be more challenging.
We chose Read&Write because it brings together so many helpful reading and writing tools in one place, and it works really well with the platforms we use, like Google and Chromebooks. We prefer it over Snap&Read and Co:Writer because it’s more user-friendly and easier for staff and students to pick up. That said, there are still some features we miss—like the translation and outline tools—and we hope to see those added soon.
We’ve also looked at tools like Helperbird and QuillBot. While they have some interesting features, Read&Write has been more reliable, easier to support across the district, and better suited for school use overall.

Do you think Read&Write delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Read&Write's feature set?

Yes

Did Read&Write live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Read&Write go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Read&Write again?

Yes

We have loved using Read&Write with students that have difficulties with spelling, generating writing, need text-to-speech to access text, or need some executive functioning tools such as the highlighting tools. We love to train all students starting around 4-5th grade, so that these are tools all students can continue to use as they move into middle and high school and the complexity of content and expectations continues to increase.
