Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides a common OS foundation that we can leverage all across our organization that allow us to scale faster in a validated OS that can be upgraded. This helps a lot as we do not need to redeploy applications during he life cycle of an application.

Pros

  • appstreams
  • providing tooling to support the OS
  • documentation is awesome

Cons

  • networking bonding, teamd deprecation
  • Ansible and python modules utilization in shared environments
  • Satellite could be better for remote execution
  • Given that the system is very stable, it does not causes disruptions caused by the OS
  • When there are disruptions support is easy to work with providing answers.
I do prefer it over other Linux flavors.

Yes

Did Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) again?

Yes

It is very well suited to scenarios where you just need a server that runs a common image and managed by your IT team.

Not so good for scenarios where people is used to other platforms such as Ubuntu where a lot of the support is community based. Due to RHEL doc being behind an authentication mechanism it spooks away some users and sometimes part of the community that answers on open forums.
