Sage is great for in house accounting
Overall Satisfaction with Sage Accounting
We use Sage for our accounting software, with several users. We print our checks, upload our Payroll paid reports. Issues: It is not VPN compatible - or easily. It runs super slow if you do, and customer support will not help you if there are issues. it periodically will freeze or crash. The errors that you get when you are entering and another is running reports at the same time.
Pros
- GL mapping
- Entering for AR
Cons
- VPN Compatibility
- Sage makes tracking the cost of building easier

Sage Accounting Feature Ratings
Using Sage Accounting
8 - Used by CFO to monitor all of the things. Controller for the same reason plus entering GL entries. Accounting Supervisor uses to check GL, assist accounts payable and receivable, enter bills, pay bills. Used by Accounting clerks to pay bills, enter bills, create invoices, import Payroll data, reimburse employees and run check runs.
We do not have any in house support, only sage support through email or call. We used to have our IT guy help, but when they took us to a remote server for Sage, we don't have access to do much of anything support wise. We have as a group gotten a bit more comfortable knowing when something is wrong, so we can reach out before it gets to be a bigger issue.
- Accounting
- Financials
- Accounts Receivable
- Accounts Payable
- Paying Bills/Check Runs
- Using the Sage Cloud to work, rather than backing up every 3 hours
- Import our ADP payroll quickly and efficiently
- Incorporate into our inventory system
Evaluating Sage Accounting and Competitors
Not Sure
- Scalability
- Ease of Use
It had a small package for the few users we needed when we started, we have since grown and outgrown that package changing to cloud based. While we like it, we have to use Sage server as well, so its a bit of pill to log in, but it seems to be working.
No, I think it worked out the way it should, and seems to be working.
Sage Accounting Implementation
Change management was a major issue with the implementation - We went from 4 users to 8, we grew and needed to have others using the system. We went from the basic smallest package to the cloud base system for our remote workers to use easier. If you can, sign up for the cloud base right away, the change from one to the other is a pain.
- Lost info
- Poor Customer Service
Sage Accounting Training
- No Training
Yes, overall easy system to use and learn. If you are new to accounting, I would say do some training. If you have used other systems for accounting, like myself, you will likely be able to pick it up fairly easy.
Configuring Sage Accounting
None at this time.
Some - we have done small customizations to the interface - I think we all have our primary screen set up for what we mainly use, it was easy to do and easy to manipulate.
No - we have not done any custom code
Nothing, we are pretty basic as a company, and try to keep it easy, and not have a ton of customization to things making reporting more difficult.
Sage Accounting Support
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
Quick Initial Response | Less knowledgeable Not kept informed Escalation required Difficult to get immediate help Need to explain problems multiple times |
Not that I know, we could have at this point.
Yes - It took roughly 7 months after we changed to get a solution to use Sage server. It was lengthy, and often got different folks working on the issue telling us the previous did not do it correctly. We lost 2 weeks worth of work, and that took a while to reproduce.
We had one gentleman, that was in the management or escalation cases, we now have his email on file to reach out to when we have an issue. He was very helpful, and pathed the way to us getting working properly.

Integrating Sage Accounting
- None at this time
We are looking at ERP system that will integrate, but that has not happened yet.
- ERP System, not sure what one yet.
Unknown vendor, so answer is unknown.
- File import/export
No others.
None, as we do not integrate at this time.
Relationship with Sage
Unsure, over 15 years ago, no paperwork on that in office to reference.
None at all.
Upgrading Sage Accounting
Yes - It did not go smoothly, it was lengthy, and steps got forgotten and we lost information. It took roughly 7-8 months to get back to stable without having to back up and reinstall the software every 4 hours.
- More users
- Remote capacity
Yes - We needed more users, and our package did not allow for more, so we were forced too. We also needed remote access and on the standard version we were told that was not possible. So we went to the cloud based. Took a while, but seems to be working now.
