Overall Satisfaction with Sage Accounting

We use Sage for our accounting software, with several users. We print our checks, upload our Payroll paid reports. Issues: It is not VPN compatible - or easily. It runs super slow if you do, and customer support will not help you if there are issues. it periodically will freeze or crash. The errors that you get when you are entering and another is running reports at the same time.

Pros

  • GL mapping
  • Entering for AR

Cons

  • VPN Compatibility
  • Sage makes tracking the cost of building easier

Do you think Sage Accounting delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Sage Accounting's feature set?

Yes

Did Sage Accounting live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Sage Accounting go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Sage Accounting again?

Yes

This is great for larger companies, such as ours. Would not be the best for small businesses that are trying to save funds, Sage is not cheap.

Using Sage Accounting

8 - Used by CFO to monitor all of the things. Controller for the same reason plus entering GL entries. Accounting Supervisor uses to check GL, assist accounts payable and receivable, enter bills, pay bills. Used by Accounting clerks to pay bills, enter bills, create invoices, import Payroll data, reimburse employees and run check runs.
We do not have any in house support, only sage support through email or call. We used to have our IT guy help, but when they took us to a remote server for Sage, we don't have access to do much of anything support wise. We have as a group gotten a bit more comfortable knowing when something is wrong, so we can reach out before it gets to be a bigger issue.
  • Accounting
  • Financials
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Accounts Payable
  • Paying Bills/Check Runs
  • Using the Sage Cloud to work, rather than backing up every 3 hours
  • Import our ADP payroll quickly and efficiently
  • Incorporate into our inventory system
It has been a difficult time going from only 4 users to 8, we had to change "types" within sage to the cloud base, which was fine, and better but the original rep who assisted us did a poor job and didnt transfer all the files. For the first 3 months we had nothing but failures and would lose work. We were for another 2 months backing up every 4 hours to allow us a clean more up to date back up. Then they moved us to there server of the cloud (again fine, and works better) BUT, they didnt go over how to get out, so we kept getting errors again. Took a good 8 months in total after we changed the amount of users we have to be solid again.

Evaluating Sage Accounting and Competitors

  • Scalability
  • Ease of Use
It had a small package for the few users we needed when we started, we have since grown and outgrown that package changing to cloud based. While we like it, we have to use Sage server as well, so its a bit of pill to log in, but it seems to be working.
No, I think it worked out the way it should, and seems to be working.

Sage Accounting Implementation

This is regarding the implementation from basic package to the cloud base. We had poor customer service who made the change, didnt bring over all the things. Causing us to have a bug and restart 2X. They finally fixed that, then the system didnt like our internet, we changed providers, and that still didnt fix it. Hired a off site company that assisted our IT guy, and our internet and server were good. We finally moved to Sage cloud base server (we log into that server, then log into sage). It took way to long, and we got the run around until our CFO finally got frustrated, as did our owner.
Change management was a major issue with the implementation - We went from 4 users to 8, we grew and needed to have others using the system. We went from the basic smallest package to the cloud base system for our remote workers to use easier. If you can, sign up for the cloud base right away, the change from one to the other is a pain.
  • Lost info
  • Poor Customer Service

Sage Accounting Training

Yes, overall easy system to use and learn. If you are new to accounting, I would say do some training. If you have used other systems for accounting, like myself, you will likely be able to pick it up fairly easy.

Configuring Sage Accounting

It is fine, I think its pretty even with other systems.
None at this time.
Some - we have done small customizations to the interface - I think we all have our primary screen set up for what we mainly use, it was easy to do and easy to manipulate.
No - we have not done any custom code
Nothing, we are pretty basic as a company, and try to keep it easy, and not have a ton of customization to things making reporting more difficult.

Sage Accounting Support

Some reps are super helpful, if you get one of those, I suggest you hang onto contact info for future issues. Then some are way below the scale, leave stuff out and don't follow through. Its hit or miss. The language barrier can sometimes be difficult as well.
ProsCons
Quick Initial Response
Less knowledgeable
Not kept informed
Escalation required
Difficult to get immediate help
Need to explain problems multiple times
Not that I know, we could have at this point.
Yes - It took roughly 7 months after we changed to get a solution to use Sage server. It was lengthy, and often got different folks working on the issue telling us the previous did not do it correctly. We lost 2 weeks worth of work, and that took a while to reproduce.
We had one gentleman, that was in the management or escalation cases, we now have his email on file to reach out to when we have an issue. He was very helpful, and pathed the way to us getting working properly.

Using Sage Accounting

ProsCons
Relatively simple
Easy to use
Well integrated
Quick to learn
Convenient
Feel confident using
Familiar
Inconsistent
  • Entering a Bill
  • Pulling reports
  • Entering a new vendor
  • Paying a bill Electronically or via check
  • Moving platforms within sage (from basic package to the cloud base)

Sage Accounting Reliability

Now that we are up and running properly with all the bandaids fixed, it seems to work efficiently, easy to use remotely and instant posting.
Have not had any issue with the availability other than we were having software issues.
Seems to load quickly, post quickly and work efficiently now. Does not seem to slow down.

Integrating Sage Accounting

Skip - we do not integrate with any other system.
  • None at this time
We are looking at ERP system that will integrate, but that has not happened yet.
  • ERP System, not sure what one yet.
Unknown vendor, so answer is unknown.
  • File import/export
No others.
None, as we do not integrate at this time.

Relationship with Sage

Unknown, I did not work with the Vendor during initial sales of sage to our company, that was over 15 years ago.
Again, that was over 15 years ago, no associate is around that aided in that.
Unsure, over 15 years ago, no paperwork on that in office to reference.
Did not help purchase, no one in the office did the original purchase of Sage.

Upgrading Sage Accounting

Yes - It did not go smoothly, it was lengthy, and steps got forgotten and we lost information. It took roughly 7-8 months to get back to stable without having to back up and reinstall the software every 4 hours.
  • More users
  • Remote capacity
Yes - We needed more users, and our package did not allow for more, so we were forced too. We also needed remote access and on the standard version we were told that was not possible. So we went to the cloud based. Took a while, but seems to be working now.
