Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform

To follow the clean core strategy, SAP Business Technology Platform is the key to it. Like any other organization, we have several unique business scenarios, which off the self S/4 can’t Address. SAP Business Technology Platform helps in managing all the WRICEF which are critical for business continuity. Extensibility from SAP Business Technology Platform allows us to manage the interfaces, enhancements which are custom object and let the S/4 keep clean.

Pros

  • Allow to connect with satellite systems through API and connectors.
  • SAP Business Technology Platform extensibility helps in managing Tier1,2 and 3 custom objects.
  • Helps to update S/4 faster, economical and minimize the regression testing.

Cons

  • There is still lot of room for improving low code no code.
  • Extensibility decision tree to find out the right approach is complex and sometimes hard to decide.
  • Having hundred of different applications interacting with our SAP ecosystem, setting up connectivity with them became significantly easy as SAP Business Technology Platform provides hundreds of standard Connectors.
  • To build custom WRICEF Objects for critical scenarios which are not possible through standard S/4, was possible and also at faster pace.
  • Availing automation and AI, became possible through SAP Business Technology Platform.
Our SAP ERP ecosystem is more than 17 years old. Due to our industry high regulations and compliance, we had to develop many complex business scenarios through custom objects, particularly supply chain function. These processes are still not available in standard S/4 solution, for example physical Financial mismatch. SAP Business Technology Platform helped us to develop custom developments around this process, which is very critical to remain compliant.
I have seen and used at least one use case - SAP provides us a decision tree about how to decide which Tier to use for extensibility. This helped our development team to put forward the rationality for development in front of management. This was necessary as we followed a strategy to simplify the SAP landscape. This also helped in keeping the core clean. Another area is Analytics, where SAP Business Technology Platform use case became very handy.
SAP Concur allows our staff to book, reimburse and remain spend audit compliant. Our Concur system takes feed from Workday and interacts with Credit card vendor. It also makes posting to Accounting and does clearing. SAP Business Technology Platform helped in establishing connection with all these different tools in real time. It helps in getting paid to the card service provider through our Bank through interface, which is built on SAP Business Technology Platform.

Any organization which were on ECC or S/4 for long time and in the way developed lot of custom objects, SAP Business Technology Platform is a must for business continuity. Also if organization wants to do upgrade frequently and wants to keep clean core, then I would suggest to go for SAP Business Technology Platform without much thought.
For any startup or green field implementation, if you are planning to go for public cloud, SAP Business Technology Platform can be not necessary for the time being.
